Remembrance Sunday Service

The Church of St Peter & St Paul is holding its annual Remembrance Sunday service on 10 November 2013 at 3 pm, the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. We will reflect on those who continue to suffer as a result of conflict, a two minute silence will follow the Last Post, there will be the traditional laying of wreaths at St George’s window; and we will commit ourselves to work together for peace, heal the wounds of war, and to working for a just future for all humanity.

Family History Course

A new course in helping you to trace your family history.

There will be 5 monthly sessions, each one lasting for 1 hour and the charge will be £2 per session:

  1. Where do I begin?
  2. Civil Registration
  3. Census Records
  4. Parish Records
  5. Using the internet

Lots of help will be given along the way.

The start and finish of the route are being finalised, as Macmillan are slightly tweaking all of it so it is the most scenic route for walkers.

Multi-sports Camp

Come along and join in our fun activities for the summer holidays Multi-sports Camp with different sports activities taking place each day.

Full day session: 10 am to 3 pm.

Half day sessions:

  • 10 am to 12 noon
  • 1 pm to 3 pm

Activities include: football, Kwik Cricket, athletics, rounders, Kangoo Jumps plus much more.

Suitable for children aged five to 14 years. Under eights can only attend half day sessions unless supervised over lunch by a parent or guardian.

Costs: £2.50 per half day session, £5 per full day

New Mega Active attendance rewards scheme in place: five half-day or full-day sessions for the price of four.

Please bring a packed lunch and wear outdoor clothing, a sun hat and sun cream.

It is preferred for a place to be booked in advance, however places will be available on the day.

Art, Craft, Gardens, Allotments, Miniature Gardens and Scarecrow Trail Competition

There will be art and craft displays and free refreshments in the Village Hall.

Scarecrow competition – start thinking of what your scarecrow will look like this year – can be any topics! Judging will take place on the weekend Saturday – Sunday, 20–21 July 2013. So please DISPLAY your scarecrows on these dates.

Miniature Gardens – Also for the third year running there will be a miniature garden competition for 3 categories: 0–7 years; 7–16 years; adults held in the VILLAGE Hall. Gardens to be designed in a round, oval or square bowl/box, tray or tin and no larger than 45 cm × 45 cm (18 inches × 18 inches) or 45 cm (18 inches) diameter. Take your entry to the Village Hall by 12 noon on 28 July 2013. There will be a prize for each of the 3 categories: 0–7 years; 7–16 years; adults.

The Best Gardens and Allotments awards will be made again this year. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for the best gardens and also the best allotments. The Judges will be going round the village looking at the gardens and allotments and then making their decisions. There is no need to make an application for entry.

Harthill Gardening World Live

Harthill School Young Voices; Floral demonstration; bonsai demonstration and 3 Shires Clog Dancers, will be held in the afternoon.

There will be a Hog Roast on offer along with tea, coffee, cakes and other refreshments all day on the field, whilst inside the pub a lunch time menu is available between 12.00 and 2.00 pm.

This event is to raise funds to support the HDGA 3-day fruit, flower and vegetable show, held annually in September.

Linked to this event is the ‘Harthill Garden Trail’ of Villagers opening their gardens to visitors.
