Todwick Ramblers Club

About Us

We are a friendly social group and welcome new members. Anyone interested is encouraged to join 2 or 3 of our rambles as guests before deciding whether they wish to join the club.

The club aims to provide a minimum of 2 rambles per month, these are advertised on the village website and on the noticeboard outside the village hall. The walks are usually circular with distances ranging from 4.5 to 6 miles. Some walks begin in or around Todwick, others are further afield, in which case we encourage car sharing. Members are updated about walks by email.

We do not have regular “walk days”, walk leaders are encouraged to arrange a date that fits in with their personal diary. Walks usually start at 10 am. and will have a refreshment stop and longer walks a picnic stop also.

The club is affiliated to The Ramblers Association and has third party liability insurance, which accounts for a large percentage of the annual membership fee, currently standing at £5.

Diary of Walks 2026

We lead walks twice a month, usually in the first and third week.

Start: 10.00 am

General description: This walk incorporates the Holmebrook Valley Park and passes two of the Linacre Dams; the full walk is around 4.75 miles. There are shorter options of around 3 miles and around 1.5 miles.

Terrain: Well surfaced trails and forestry tracks; field paths; one low stone stile. The outward part of the route involves some gradual ups and downs. The last mile or so is fairly level on surfaced paths and roadsides through housing. The shorter routes are less undulating.

Start point: Holmebrook Valley Park, Newbold Road, Chesterfield S41 8WE. what3words “Rugs.squeaking.wildfires”. Grid Ref. SK 356 731. The entrance to the Park is at the end of Water Meadow Lane which is off Newbold Road (B6051) between Barlow and Newbold. Park in the first car park on your left.

Facilities: At the start at Holmebrook, there are large free car parks; free public toilets; lots of benches; and a pleasant volunteer-run café. There are also free toilets at Linacre. There are maps and directions for anyone wanting to do the short routes
