Todwick Parish Council Newsletter
No. 89
March 2011

Welcome to the Spring 2011 edition of your Todwick Informer!

Well, we did survive the Winter! What are the lessons learned?

For many people it has been a very long, hard winter. It was really good to see neighbours and friends helping and caring for each other, and great efforts were made by many people who got together to clear the roads themselves. Todwick Parish Council (TPC) are still having discussions with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) about the lack of support during this winter.

Government advice regarding snow clearing

There's no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your home or from public spaces. It is unlikely you will be sued or held legally responsible for any injuries on the path if you have cleared it carefully. Follow the snow code when clearing snow and ice safely see www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_191868

A reminder will be put in the Informer before next Winter begins!

Parish Council Matters Briefly

Todwick Parish Plan is being updated!

This was originally created in the mid 2000s. Please fill in the Todwick Parish Plan Questionnaire when it arrives at your house. See also the insert in this Informer that gives more details about Todwick and Transport.

Alerting Dog owners

RMBC have reported that they would now fine dog owners who allowed their dogs to foul the public highway or any other public area provided the location, date/time, offender's name/address and description of the dog were given. RMBC would now accept for this to be communicated by e-mail. The offender would be taken to court in the event that the fine was not paid within 14 days.

Around the Village

Todwick Neighbourhood Watch offers

In the latter months of 2010, we arranged for a Smartwater Property Marking kit to be made available free of charge to any member of Todwick Neighbourhood Watch. The take up of this offer was very good and now well over 100 households in the village are protected and displaying the Smartwater window sticker to send a clear message to unwelcome visitors.

We are now able to offer a further property identification system called "IF YOU LOVE IT, LOG IT". It is available to any household in Todwick and again it is free of charge. It is run through the South Yorkshire Police and for a starter pack, please contact Norman Anderson details below.

We also welcome new members to your village Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. It costs nothing to join and 65% of households already have joined. I am just waiting to hear from you! See www.todwick.org.uk/groups/nhw

Todwick Ramblers Club

The introduction of a 6 monthly rambles programme last year increased the diversity and locations of the Club's activities. This has been achieved by additional club members volunteering to lead a walk. Over the last 12 months the Club organised, through its members, 24 rambles. Eight of the rambles were local events with the walks terminating in Todwick, all points of the compass were covered, with the Club using the local bus services to access start off points, such as, Aston, Harthill, South Anston and Wales.

The other sixteen rambles, all of a circular nature required car transport to reach the start point. Distances travelled varied dramatically with some only a few miles away, others further afield. Once again the destinations were diverse and new vistas of our countryside discovered. It is pleasing to report that all rambles were well attended, despite some ominous weather forecasts. This is much appreciated by the walk leaders who input much time and effort into providing a good day out for all.

During January the Club held a well attended and very enjoyable social evening in the Village Hall. New Members always welcome contact Jim Tompkin Tel: 01909 770700.
