June 2010

Welcome to the Summer 2010 edition of your Todwick Informer!

PARISH COUNCIL MATTERS BRIEFLY

Annual Parish Assembly

The Annual Parish Assembly was held in Todwick Village Hall at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday 27th April 2010 and the minutes are available on the Todwick website. The Minutes review the year's activities, including how funds are allocated.

TPC Meetings

Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month, except August, in the Village Hall commencing at 7 pm. The open session, where Todwick residents can attend and raise local issues or ask questions, commences at 8 pm. Minutes of meetings appear a few days after the meetings on the Todwick website.

Waiting for Buses from Todwick and to Kiveton Park? This update will be of interest!

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) says that the next round of service changes are due to be registered and there is some pressure from Todwick Parish Council (TPC) trying to increase the frequency to and from Todwick to Kiveton Park.

FIRST do not consider that the level of use is sufficient to warrant making wholesale changes to their network but they have not yet registered their changes for July. SYPTE bus services team, however, have suggested that when they know what FIRST are doing they will definitely reconsider the links to and from Todwick to Kiveton - so all is not lost.

Allotments

All allotments are currently taken and a waiting list exists. If you wish your name to be placed on the waiting list please contact Councillor Bryan Ferris on 01909 773857.

Planting and Maintenance of the village flower beds

The contract for the Summer planting is currently being awarded. To complement the flower beds there will be some hanging baskets this summer. The TPC trust that you will note the improved floral display throughout the summer. Your Parish Council is constantly seeking to improve the attraction of the village but have to work within a budget which has to provide for many other services

Recreation Ground and Storth Lane

Children and other visitors are delighted with the new playground facilities newly installed in the Recreation Ground.

Please note that dogs are strictly forbidden on the Recreation Ground. Sports teams and other users should inform their visitors of this rule which is displayed at the entrance to the Recreation Ground. There is an increase of dog fouling of Storth Lane (path/road to Kiveton), people are allowing their animals to mess on the path itself and leaving it even though bins have been provided. Even worse some are collecting the mess and then throwing it onto adjoining private land - it is a health hazard to everyone who uses the path on a daily basis and unfair to the private property owners.

Pavilions

The old cricket pavilion has now been demolished and there have been some great improvements carried out in the now shared Pavilion - interior walls have been taken down making a much more user friendly space, and new kitchen units have been installed. Internal redecoration and other work was voluntarily carried out by Councillor David Gregory and his wife Etta - so thanks to them for these great efforts. You will see the results if you go to the Todwick Funday and the Music by Moonlight events on Sunday 13 June 2010.

TPC Meeting 25 May 2010

Stephen Hill was re-elected as Chairman for 2010-11 and David Gregory was elected Vice Chairman taking over from John Palmer who was thanked for all his efforts and hard work.

Todwick Ramblers Club

The Club's two programmed walks in May 2010 enjoyed the pleasant weather conditions. On Sunday 9th May the Club's local walk commenced at Todwick and followed a countryside 6 mile circular route that encompassed the Kiveton Community Woodlands, a section of the Chesterfield Canal, returning via Axle Lane, with 11 members turning out on the day.

On Tuesday 19th May the Club met at the Elsecar Heritage centre to follow the route of the RMBC No. 9 Doorstep Walk. Although only 4 miles in length the circular route provides picture postcard landscapes, plus interesting buildings and follies, which our party of 9 admired as we took advantage of the warm sunny weather. The Club also welcomed its youngest participant to date, namely young Jack, who at 1 year 9 months, completed the ramble with ease, with some assistance from his Grandmother and their all terrain buggy.

The Club's committee is now actively preparing the rambles programme for the next SIX months, which will commence from July 2010 to January 2011. Early notification and details of proposed rambles and dates would be appreciated, and forwarded on to Jim Tompkin or any committee member before 13 June 2010.
